Everton fans simply deserve better: that should be the main takeaway from their narrow Premier League survival this season.

Despite their recent woes, Everton are still one of the biggest clubs in England. They are a huge club.

And the fact the Toffees are one of England’s biggest clubs makes their current plight all the more horrific. It is disgraceful that Everton are in a position they are currently in - circling the Premier League drain season in, season out.

Here's some of the changes that can be made to get Everton back to where they belong in the Premier League table:

1. Squad overhaul

It's pretty obvious, but the current Everton squad needs a massive overhaul.

More than just throwing more money at the problem however (which they've done unsuccessfully in the past), the Toffees simply need to be smarter in the transfer window moving forward. Clubs like Napoli in recent years have proved that you don't need to spend a boatload of money to improve your squad, you just need to have the right scouting networks in place to find hidden gems.

2. A more forward-thinking manager

Yes, Sean Dyche has saved Everton from relegation, but it's hard to shy away from how uninspiring the Toffees have remained while he's been in charge.

Everton fans should, and will, be demanding better and more eye-catching football in the future and it's hard to imagine Dyche is the man to bring that to Merseyside.

3. New ownership

As the fans invaded the pitch following the win on Sunday, the first song they chanted was 'sack the board'.

That says it all really. The current ownership have made some rather shambolic decisions in recent years and it's clear that the club need people with more of a clear vision for the future to take over the club.
