Gareth Southgate watched England get drawn into a modest Group C for this summer's Euro 2024 from the Elbphilharmonie hall in snowy Hamburg.
The Three Lions were pitted against Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia. The Danes faced England as recently as the semi-finals of the previous European Championships. Mikkel Damsgaard's stunning free-kick was the first time that Southgate's side had fallen behind in the competition, yet England rallied to prevail 2-1, with Harry Kane gobbling up the rebound of his own missed penalty to secure a place in the final.
Neither Slovenia nor Serbia appeared in that pan-continental competition. In fact, the last time either nation made it to the finals of the Euros was in 2000.
