Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given fresh injury updates on Casemiro and Luke Shaw as they near returns to action.

Casemiro sustained an ankle injury during Brazil's draw at home to Venezuela during the first week of the October international window, but then managed to play the full 90 minutes in a defeat to Uruguay a few days later.

He has been granted permission to stay back in Brazil for a few extra days in order to recover from the problem and will not feature in Saturday night's Premier League clash against Sheffield United, while he is suspended for Tuesday's Champions League match against Kobenhavn. However, Casemiro is expected to return for next Sunday's Manchester derby at home to City.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's trip to Bramall Lane, Ten Hag admitted he could not be angry at Casemiro for risking further injury by playing in Brazil's second game of the month.

"You can't - they are the rules. And he's played for his nation and he's playing for us and we all understand Casemiro is a solider and he is always available for every game, he will always gives his best for nation and Manchester United," Ten Hag said.

"He was injured in the first game and he came off but he played the second game, it was an important one. I'm sure that game didn't help him but it's a small injury and he'll return next week and he will be healed and ready for our next game, I'm sure."

Ten Hag was also pressed for injury updates on Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kobbie Mainoo, though he did not have much positive news when it came to the England left-back, who has been out since August with a hamstring injury and is not expected to be fit until after the November international break.

"Of course they are closer, but with Shaw, I don't expect him back in this block of games," Ten Hag said. "Wan-Bissaka is not too far away from returning to team training and so back in the team.

"Kobbie - he's close, he's already training with us, not today but next week he will have some minutes in the team then he can catch up, he's really improving and ready to get back in the squad for games."
