Football has essentially become a money-dominated industry where the powerhouses of Europe control the game - something the Super League saga did a pretty good job of highlighting.

However, every once in a while we're sent a timely little reminder that fairytales can and do still happen in our beautiful game. Y'know, like Leicester winning the Premier League or non-league players making it to the very top.

The story of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is barely even believable as a fairytale.

Couldn't hit a barn door early in his career with Hamburg, didn't do too badly with Mainz and Schalke before taking a bit of a nose dive to Premier League obscurity with Stoke City, and then for some reason his career just went mental!

The Cameroon international managed to secure a move to Paris Saint-Germain and two years later he was playing in the Champions League final.

The best was yet to come as he then went and got himself a move to Bayern Munich - they'd clearly spotted what a talent he was in the Champions League final just a few months earlier - and following the injury to talisman Robert Lewandowski he was suddenly starring in Europe's premier competition for the Bavarians.

To be fair to the frontman he did a decent job - notching a goal in both legs of the semi-final as Bayern were dumped out by PSG - and the fairytale has taken another ridiculous twist as he's now set to be offered a new deal at the club.

BILD report that Bayern are keen to tie Choupo-Moting down for another year with his contracting expiring in the summer - with an agreement expected to be reached in the coming weeks.

The report adds that the club see the move as making good business sense given his comparatively low salary and have been impressed with his displays in the absence of Lewandowski.

Choupo-Moting is multilingual, speaking four different languages, and the club view that as an essential asset with so many different nationalities in the Bayern dressing room.
