Chelsea duo Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have both backed the Blues to return to their place among the Premier League's elite in the near future.

The two midfielders are the most expensive signings of the BlueCo era, with the current owners spending huge sums on young players with a view to creating a dominant force in global football over the next decade.

Few expected Chelsea's journey to be this bumpy, however. The Blues endured a disastrous season last year and, while the arrival of new manager Mauricio Pochettino has seen performance levels rise, Chelsea continue to struggle for results.

Nevertheless, Fernandez and Caicedo both remain believers of the Chelsea project.

"I think we are going to be one of the best teams in the Premier League," Fernandez said on Sky Sports' Big Interview. "I don't know when, not now but I think that through hard work we will do it, we will achieve it."

Caicedo echoed his teammates' comments, adding: "I agree 100%. As Enzo said, it will take time and those who don't believe in us will end up doing so."

Pochettino used Friday's press conference to suggest that Chelsea have become victims of their past success, urging fans and critics alike to open their eyes to a new era.

"We are in a different project," he explained. "All the history of Chelsea is to win big things. I said, I think a few months ago, maybe Chelsea are now with Manchester United and Liverpool are the biggest club in England.

"I think Chelsea in the last 15 years won too many titles, a lot of titles, now we are in a different situation where we are building something for the future. Maybe we struggle a little bit in the beginning, because of details we are not managing well.

"That is why we lose too many points, maybe we deserve more but because we are so young like a team, maybe we are not managing the situation.

"No doubt in the future that Chelsea will be in the position they deserve to be because of their history."
