Real Madrid hope to leapfrog rivals Barcelona and seize the initiative in La Liga's title race when they take on their fierce rivals in El Clasico.

After a huge Champions League win over Liverpool in midweek, Zinedine Zidane's men return to domestic action knowing a victory can take winning the title out of Barcelona's hands and potentially move them level on points with leaders Atletico Madrid.

With injury problems depleting their squad, especially in defence, Zidane has tough decisions to make regarding his lineup, knowing he has a huge second leg tie with Liverpool to come. Here, 90min predicts the lineup he'll pick to earn Los Blancos a huge three points.

Real Madrid predicted lineup

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Thibaut Courtois (GK) - The undisputed number one goalkeeper, Courtois has kept 12 clean sheets this season in La Liga.

Lucas Vazquez (RB) - Naturally a winger, Vazquez has proved a more than able deputy to the injured Dani Carvajal and will be required to continue in this unfamiliar role.

Eder Militao (CB) - No Varane or Ramos for Zidane to select, so Militao will start. Had a great game against Liverpool and another big performance could be the catalyst for a prosperous Real Madrid career.

Nacho (CB) - Experienced, versatile, Nacho is an academy prospect who has the trust of Zidane and can be relied on to keep a calm head.

Ferland Mendy (LB) - The only first-choice defender available, Mendy has been brilliant this season and will keep Marcelo on the sidelines.

2. Midfielders

Casemiro (DM) - One of, if not the best defensive midfielder in the world, Casemiro is remarkably Madrid second top goalscorer behind Karim Benzema and always turns up for the big games.

Toni Kroos (CM) - The German earned a beautiful assist against Liverpool and is technically still one of the best midfielders in the world.

Luka Modric (CM) - Age is nothing but a number as Modric continues to show this season. He starts whenever fit for Zidane.

3. Forwards

Marco Asensio (RW) - Asensio is finally looking back to his old self following a serious knee injury and is looks more than capable of fulfilling his untapped potential.

Karim Benzema (ST) - The talisman of the team, Benzema is Real's most important forward and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Vinicius Jr (LW) - Inconsistent is the best way to describe the 20-year-old, but two goals against Liverpool show the level he can reach. Eden Hazard's continued absence will give him another chance to shine.
