David de Gea says he wants to stay at Manchester United "for more years" and hopes to win more trophies with the club.

De Gea is United longest serving active player, having signed from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and remains their first choice goalkeeper despite recent competition from Dean Henderson, who joined Nottingham Forest on loan earlier this season.

The Spaniard will record his 500th United appearance on Sunday against Newcastle and is in the final 12 months of his contract, though the Red Devils have the option of another year.

With United rebuilding and improving under new manager Erik ten Hag, De Gea has reiterated his passion for the club and his desire to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

"This is my club and where I feel good," he said. "I’m playing well and I feel very well. I have many more years to play. Yes, I would like to stay here for more years and make records for games and everything.

"I’d like to try to help the young people here as well with my experience and try to win trophies. I feel very confident."

De Gea will become the 11th United player to feature in 500 games for the club, also being the first foreigner to record the feat.

"It is crazy," said De Gea. "Five hundred games is never easy at a big club like Manchester United.

"I’m really proud and can’t wait to play Newcastle and try to win. Nobody expects to play that many years and that many games. It’s unbelievable and I consider it a privilege."
