D.C. United triumphed 3-0 over Charlotte FC on Saturday, with the help of a spectacular bicycle kick goal by star striker Christian Benteke.

Benteke's goal earned high praise from head coach Wayne Rooney, forcing him to remember his time as a player. "Christian’s actually scored a few. He scored one against me at Old Trafford against Manchester United," the ex-Manchester United said in a post-game interview.

Christian Benteke's overhead kick against Charlotte FC will be up there in goal of the season contention after the dust settles, but for now, it's getting Black and Red United supporters excited about the team's future possibilities.

"I think there's an excitement growing. It's on us to make sure we keep that going."

D.C. United kicked off the 2023 MLS season in entertaining fashion, winning 3-2 vs. Toronto FC. But after the opening match, Rooney's squad went six straight matches without a win and failed to score a goal in three out of six matches during that period.

It seems, however, that Rooney may have turned things around for the Black and Red. Following the 2-0 defeat to the Columbus Crew at home on April 8, D.C. United have gone on to win four straight games in all competitions and scored eight goals in four games during the winning streak.

The recent flurry of wins sees D.C. United surge to seventh place in the Eastern Conference table on 14 points after Matchday 10. And the team will look to extend the winning streak to five straight when they travel to Ohio to take on an in-form FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
