Saturday 16 May, 2009 - the last time Cristiano Ronaldo appeared for Manchester United during his first spell at the club.

148 months later after that 0-0 draw with Arsenal, which sealed an 11th Premier League crown for the Red Devils, Ronaldo returned - with things a lot different compared to how they were when he departed.

United are no longer the dominant force they were back then - indeed, they've only won two further league titles since that 2008/09 triumph - and Ronaldo most certainly isn't the right midfielder converting into a left winger that he was for most of that first spell in red.

Now, Ronaldo is a poacher who loves to score goals and win things - his incredible goal tally of 551 during his 12 years away attests to that, as well as his four Champions League crowns.

That, however, is old news.

Ronaldo is a Manchester United player once more, with excitement continually at fever pitch with every passing day. Will he be success? Probably, and here's his record against United's next five opponents.

Aston Villa

Won: 13 (92.8%)
Goals: 9
Assists: 4

Ronaldo should be in Premier League action against Aston Villa next, a team he has a superb record against.

Of the 14 games Ronaldo has played against the Villans, he has emerged on the winning side 13 times - scoring nine goals and laying a further four on a plate for his teammates.

Included in that haul are a brace in his last season with United - during that 3-2 win when Federico Macheda burst onto the scene - and a stellar showing in the 2007/08 campaign, when Ronaldo scored one and assisted three in a 4-0 win.

Villarreal

Won: 8 (42%)
Goals: 13
Assists: 5

Ronaldo's second dip into this season's Champions League pits him against a Villarreal side who have an astonishingly good record against him.

The Yellow Submarine have avoided defeat in 11 of the 19 games Ronaldo has played against them, although keeping him quiet on a personal level has proved challenging. Four of Ronaldo's games against Villarreal came during his first stint for United, which incredibly all finished 0-0, but the goalscoring floodgates then opened once he joined Real Madrid.

He bagged seven in his first four games in Spain, and six more followed - including in Ronaldo's last game against Villarreal, a 2-2 draw on the final day of the 2017/18 season.

Played: 12
Won: 8 (66%)
Goals: 5
Assists: 3

Ronaldo's record against Everton is also mightily impressive, though his relatively low goal tally reflects his early days as a traditional right midfielder.

It wasn't until Ronaldo's seventh meeting with the Toffees that he scored his first league goal against them, in the 3-0 win at Old Trafford. He had, however, bagged a goal and assist in the 2-0 FA Cup fifth round victory at Goodison Park back in 2004/05.

One defeat in 12 is also an indication of United's dominance of this fixture under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Leicester

Coming up against Leicester will be a relatively new experience for Ronaldo.

Indeed, the only time he's faced the Foxes was way back in 2004, when Ronaldo had flowing highlighted hair and spots all over his face. He didn't contribute to United's 1-0 win at Old Trafford, and was restricted to a place on the bench in the reverse fixture - a 4-1 win for the Red Devils - earlier that season.

Leicester were then relegated and didn't return to the top flight before Ronaldo's departure.

There aren't many sides Ronaldo would class as a bogey team but Atalanta certainly appear to have his number.

Of the six meetings between Ronaldo and the boys in blue and black stripes, the Portuguese has emerged victorious just once - though that was in one of the more meaningful games the duo have contested, the Coppa Italia final.

Ronaldo won on that day but wasn't able to register a win in four Serie A games against Atalanta. He did, however, bag three goals, including a brace in a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium in July 2020.
