Following a difficult defeat at West Ham United, Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to see a reaction from his Chelsea players when they host Luton Town on Friday night.

The Blues have not had the start to the season they would have hoped for after another transfer window of big spending, picking up just one point from their opening two league matches. Welcoming Luton to Stamford Bridge may seem like a simple fixture on paper, but nothing is ever straightforward in the Premier League.

Luton will be well rested for their trip to Chelsea. Their Premier League fixture against Burnley was postponed due to ongoing renovations at Kenilworth Road, meaning they have had two weeks to put a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion behind them.

Chelsea are still without a number of key players due to injury. The likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku and Trevoh Chalobah are out for an extended period, while Armando Broja and Benoit Badiashile are expected back in September but are still some way short of fitness.

Carney Chukwuemeka will also be missing for an extended period after undergoing knee surgery following the West Ham trip. He might not be back until after the October international break.

Moises Caicedo could be set for his first Chelsea start despite enduring a nightmare debut in which he gave away a penalty and struggled to retain possession. Whether or not new signing Romeo Lavia will be involved, at least from the bench, will be interesting to see.

For Luton, Dan Potts, Reece Burke, Jordan Clark and Gabriel Osho all remain sidelined, and Rob Edwards is likely to field a similar lineup to the team that faced Brighton on the opening day.

However, new signing Ross Barkley will be in contention to start against his former club following his free transfer.

Chelsea vs Luton score prediction

The Blues are in desperate need of a response against Luton. Pochettino's side haven't been bad in either of their opening matches, but points need to be put on the board sooner rather than later.

Chelsea have at least shown more creative spark under their new boss than they did last season, with Raheem Sterling in particular looking electric against West Ham. However, the Blues have unbelievably only won one of their last 16 competitive matches.

Luton remain an unknown quantity in the Premier League, but if their defeat to Brighton is anything to go by then it may be a difficult season. While they will look to sit deep, frustrate Chelsea and hit them on the counter attack, they will find it tough to get anything from their trip to Stamford Bridge.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Luton
