Thomas Tuchel has admitted Chelsea were simply not good enough in their shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of a struggling Juventus on Wednesday evening.

A solitary goal from Federico Chiesa was enough for Juve to record an important victory, and a first clean sheet in over 20 games.

Meanwhile, Blues boss Tuchel was left to lament a second defeat in the space of a week, having lost to Man City on Saturday too.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Tuchel stated that his team should not have conceded a goal like Chiesa's, which was scored just 11 seconds into the second half:

"Impossible on this kind of level to concede an easy goal like this in the first seconds of the second half.

"When you know what's coming and you have defensive organisation like we have, it's normally possible for us to defend it - but we got punished for it."

Tuchel also took time to explain what went wrong overall, stating that his side were not sharp enough in attack and let Juve off the hook early in the game:

"We started not sharp enough - we had possession but I think the first 12-15 minutes we could have harmed them a lot more, we could have been sharper. There were so many spaces, we could've put in much more dangerous balls into their box and ask more questions.

"We had two crucial ball losses that almost gave goals away and you cannot have this on this level.

"We struggled to create our own rhythm because they were so deep and so passive, so we struggled to find our own intensity because this is what you need to do in order to find the spaces. We were so good yesterday in training, and not good enough or free enough today. I don't know why.

"I felt we were a bit slow, tired, mentally slow with our decision making."

Chelsea will look to get back on track this weekend when they face Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
