How Chelsea's attack could look if Erling Haaland signs
After an expensive transfer window last summer, Chelsea are not planning another squad rebuild this time around.
Instead, they are looking to put all their eggs into one basket by securing a blockbuster deal for one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, Erling Haaland.
You can see why Thomas Tuchel has identified Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland as his principal target. They might have lifted the Champions League trophy but no player scored more than seven league goals during 2020/21, and that was Jorginho for goodness sake.
If the Blues do pull off the Haaland deal they will be left with a wealth of mouthwatering attacking options. Giving all their forwards significant playing time could prove challenging, but 90min has
mapped out some of the ways Tuchel could get the best out of Haaland.
4. Ziyech - Haaland - Hudson-Odoi
It is hard to see what Hakim Ziyech's future is at Chelsea to be honest. There are rumours that he has a tumultuous relationship with Thomas Tuchel for one and he also managed just 23 appearances last season.
Still, as they paid so much for him, it is unlikely that the former Ajax man will be moved on just yet. He should be relishing the prospect of playing with Haaland at least.
Ziyech has a wand of a left-foot and unlike with Timo Werner last term, Chelsea's potential new arrival knows how to finish a cross.
Pairing him alongside the pacier, trickier Callum Hudson-Odoi could be a good idea. Not that the youngster cannot swing a dangerous ball in himself mind you.
3. Werner - Haaland - Havertz
Bundesliga watchers will be purring at this potential threesome. In this configuration Timo Werner would be free to exploit the left half-space that brought him so many goals for RB Leipzig. He would also provide an intriguing foil for Haaland.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz would have two tireless runners for his incisive through balls. Nice.
Havertz might even move into a number ten position with Werner and Haaland forming an iconic big man, little man strike partnership.
2. Werner - Haaland - Pulisic
Another one for all of the German football heads out there. Christian Pulisic has shown glimpses of incredible quality during his Stamford Bridge career so far, but injuries and patchy form have dimmed his overall influence.
Perhaps with a player of Haaland's incredible quality to bounce off of he can return to his Borussia Dortmund form.
On the opposite flank Werner would offer direct running in behind which should complement Pulisic incisive dribbling and pot shots nicely.
1. Mount - Haaland - Havertz
If this was Chelsea's front three for last season's Champions League final they would have won far more comfortably. You know, because Werner missed all those chances.
Haaland would not have to worry about receiving good service with this fearsome duo of playmakers behind him. Havertz should be more than capable of pushing up and prowling the box as well.
This frontline suits itself well to the 3-4-3 that Tuchel used to such good effect after taking over from Frank Lampard. The relentless runs forward from Reece James on one flank and Ben Chilwell on the other make this is a scary proposition for the rest of the Premier League.
That is without mentioning the wealth of talent Tuchel would be able to call on from the bench as well.
