Chelsea's latest defeat to Brentford marked the new lowest point in their first full campaign under new owners.

Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter have been and gone as managers this season, leaving Frank Lampard to attempt to pick up the pieces. However, things just keep getting worse at Stamford Bridge as this long season finally approaches its conclusion.

Cesar Azpilicueta's own goal put Brentford in control on Wednesday night before Bryan Mbeumo sealed the win for the visitors in the 78th minute. It's the latest loss for Lampard, whose side have set a new landmark low with their latest defeat.

They have lost five games in a row in all competitions for the first time in 30 years. Back in the 1993/94 season when Glenn Hoddle was player-manager, the Blues endured a rotten run of form which included six consecutive defeats.

Hoddle managed to hang around for another few years - something which wouldn't have happened in Chelsea's modern age of hirings and firings - while Lampard is not expected to be booted out as interim boss as they look to avoid their worst ever Premier League season.

Potter's brief spell as manager came to an end with a 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in early April. Caretaker Bruno Saltor managed to stop the rot temporarily with a goalless draw with Liverpool before Lampard stepped in to, er, guide the Blues through to the end of the season.

Instead, he has seen his side score just once in five defeats since he returned to Stamford Bridge.

While the Blues weren't expected to get past Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals, defeats to the likes of Wolves, Brighton and Brentford show just how far the club's on-field stock has fallen this year.

Hoddle's appointment as player-manager in 1993 was greeted with enthusiasm from Chelsea fans, but by October they had drawn a number of games before the losing streak kicked in.

Stars from the 1990s like Chris Sutton, Dalian Atkinson, Brian Deane and David Rocastle all scored against the Blues during this run, with the sixth consecutive defeat coming in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in which Alan Smith and Ian Wright both netted.

A draw with Man City ended the losing streak, but they didn't win another game until 28 December, edging past Newcastle 1-0.
