Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham: Player ratings as Spurs earn draw in Mind Series

Tottenham fought back from two goals down to earn a creditable 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Mind Series tournament at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The home side opened the scoring with just 15 minutes on the clock as N'Golo Kante's challenge in midfield released Hakim Ziyech. The Spurs backline showed no urgency to close the Moroccan down and he continued to drive forward before powering a fierce drive into the bottom corner.

The home side dominated the contest and just a few minutes into the second half they doubled their lead as Marcos Alonso hooked the ball back to Ziyech and the former Ajax man grabbed his second of the evening courtesy of a deflection.

Spurs finally gave themselves a foothold in the game as Lucas Moura's effort took a fortunate deflection off Antonio Rudiger, leaving Edouard Mendy flat-footed as the ball found its way into the back of the net.

From out of nowhere Spurs levelled the game with 20 minutes to play as Steven Bergwijn drilled the ball past Edouard Mendy, and the score remained at 2-2 as Spurs battled back to earn a draw.

CHELSEA PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 5/10 - Could have played the first half from his front room considering the lack of action he saw. Should have done better with Bergwijn's strike that levelled the scores.

Trevoh Chalobah (CB) - 7/10 - Made a couple of solid early interceptions to keep Spurs at bay. Moved over to right-back in the second half and looked equally as comfortable as he did in the centre.

Kurt Zouma (CB) - 6/10 - Decent enough in possession and shackled
Son Heung-min well for the majority of the contest.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 6/10 - Missed a great chance to hand his side a 2-0 lead as he powered a free header over from ten yards out. Very little he could do about the deflection for Moura's goal.

2. Midfielders

Callum Hudson-Odoi (RM) - 6/10 - Offered good width down the Chelsea right and didn't neglect his defensive work despite looking a little shaky when heading back towards his own goal. Taken off at half time as Thomas Tuchel rang the chances.

Mateo Kovacic (CM) - 8/10 - Some really good progressive passing which helped to completely cut out Spurs' midfield. Completely ran the show alongside his midfield partner.

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 8/10 - Solid challenge in midfield to release Ziyech before he opened the scoring. Didn't give Dele Alli a kick and won the ball back on countless occasions for his side.

Marcos Alonso (LM) - 7/10 - Linked up nicely with Ziyech down the left and was a willing runner all evening.

Kai Havertz (AM) - 5/10 - Had very little impact on the game. Was completely outshone by Ziyech and was eventually withdrawn in the second half.

Hakim Ziyech (AM) - 8/10 - Lovely effort to edge his side ahead after just 15 minutes and then doubled his side's lead early in the second half. Arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt to date.

3. Forward

Timo Werner (ST) - 6/10 - Had an early goal disallowed for offside (shock) only for replays to show he wasn't offside (bigger shock) but there was no VAR in use to save him.

Christian Pulisic (RM) - 6/10

Tiemoue Bakayoko (CM) - 6/10

Malang Sarr (CB) - 6/10

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Pierluigi Gollini (GK) - 6/10 - Very little he could do about either of Ziyech's strikes. Looked a bit shaky early on but regained his composure.

Matt Doherty (RB) - 5/10 - Wasn't seen as an attacking force at all and was given a torrid time by Ziyech and Alonso.

Eric Dier (CB) - 4/10 - Looked like he was desperate to run home as he continued to back off Ziyech and allowed him open the scoring. If Nuno Espirito Santo needed any more proof he needs at least two centre-backs then this was it.

Japhet Tanganga (CB) - 5/10 - Was also guilty off backing of Ziyech for his first of the game. Couldn't cope with the pace of Timo Werner and looked a little lost at times.

Sergio Reguilon (LB) - 6/10 - Was bombing up and down the Spurs left all game but wasn't utilised enough by his teammates.

6. Midfielders

Oliver Skipp (CM) - 6/10 - Carried the ball forward well but nothing much to report other than neat and tidy in possession.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 5/10 - Was completely bypassed in the centre of the pitch and subsequently withdrawn at half time.

Dele Alli (AM) - 5/10 - Some awful distribution early on and just seemed to be a few yards off the pace of the game. Couldn't get away from Kante and began to grow frustrated as the game wore on.

7. Forwards

Steven Bergwijn (RW) - 6/10 - Given another chance to make his case for a place in Spurs' starting XI. Was quiet all game but then popped up with an equaliser in the second half.

Son Heung-min (ST) - 6/10 - Tasked with leading the Tottenham line in the absence of Harry Kane. Saw precious little of him all game as he was swallowed up by the Chelsea backline.

Lucas Moura (LW) - 6/10 - Dispossessed in the build-up to Chelsea's opener. Handed his side a lifeline in the second half with a fortunate strike.
