Bruno Fernandes has lamented Manchester United's inability to kill the game off against a spirited Newport Country in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils took an early 2-0 lead at Rodney Parade thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and youngster Kobbie Mainoo. However, Man Utd's failure to convert a boatload of opportunities thereafter gifted their League Two opposition a glimmer of hope in the game.

That glimmer of hope then turned into two shock goals either side of half-time, with Bryn Morris scoring a stunning volley before former dairy farmer Will Evans bagged an equaliser in the 47th minute.

Despite this scare, United did eventually go on to win the game thanks to goals from Antony - his first of the season - and Rasmus Hojlund late in the game.

Speaking to the press after the game, captain Fernandes admitted that he was disappointed in the team's performances in spite of the win.

"No, obviously wasn't the result that we wanted. We wanted to win, we got it but the result was not the perfect one for us," he said.

"We didn't want it to concede goals, obviously the first one, it's a great goal from them. Unbelievable. Unbelievable shot.

"After we have to be more focused in the second half, we cant concede another goal and let them have some belief. We have to kill the game straightaway in the first half, we had chances to make the 3-0.

"But because when you get two-nil [up], this kind of game everyone wants to try to score get their goal and everything and sometimes we don't get the best decision for the team.

"We didn't they got to to one obviously bit of belief second off the start and they get a goal. But I think after we did a great job to close the game."

United are now set to face off against either Bristol City of Nottingham Forest in the next round of the competition.
