Bournemouth welcome Crystal Palace to the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on New Year's Eve.

The Cherries returned to top-flight action with a limp 2-0 defeat to Chelsea which couldn't be rescued by a squall of pressure far too little and late. Crystal Palace fared even worse.

On an afternoon which Patrick Vieira solemnly described as "one of the worst days since I’ve been with the club", Palace lost 3-0 at home to Fulham, ending the contest with just nine men.

Here's everything you need to know about the meeting between two teams with redemption on the brain.

Bournemouth team news

First-choice goalkeeper Neto and long-term absentee David Brooks are both on the verge of returning from hamstring injuries. Although, the pair may not feature in the Premier League this side of the new year festivities.

As many as ten players caught a virus coursing through Bournemouth's squad. Ryan Fredericks and Marcus Tavernier were the unfortunate members of this sickly squad which didn't recover in time to face Chelsea in midweek. Whether they will be healthy enough to feature this weekend remains to be seen.

Crystal Palace team news

The bad news is that James Tomkins and Tyrick Mitchell are both suspended for the trip south after booking an early bath on Boxing Day. The good news is that Marc Guehi has served his ban and should return to marshal an indisciplined backline.

Long-term absentees James McArthur and Nathan Ferguson are still engaged in recovery while Sam Johnstone is nursing a wince-worthy coccyx injury.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Bournemouth

Crystal Palace Starting 11 (4-2-3-1): Guaita; Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Richards; Schlupp, Doucoure; Ayew, Olise, Eze; Zaha.

Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace score prediction

These two clubs might both be circling the realms of one actual goal per game but Bournemouth and Palace have recorded the two lowest expected goals (xG) averages going forward this season (per FBref).

With chances in short supply, Palace may have to turn to an old favourite in search of a result.

Iain Dowie invented the phrase "bouncebackability" when grasping for a word to succinctly sum up his promotion-winning Palace side in 2003/04. It hasn't often been obvious for Vieira to follow in Dowie's footsteps but he could do with rediscovering similar reserves of resilience.

In a meeting between two sides separated by just three points in the bottom half of the table, a stalemate could be on the cards this weekend.

Prediction: Bournemouth 1-1 Crystal Palace
