Borussia Dortmund slipped out of the Bundesliga's top four on Friday night with their second consecutive loss, as they were comprehensively beaten by rivals Borussia Monchengladbach who had previously lost the last 11 meetings between the sides.

The hosts had the ball in the net after just 43 seconds, before Florian Neuhaus' strike was chalked off after VAR ruled Jude Bellingham had been fouled in the build up. They didn't let up, however, and found the breakthrough on 11 minutes as Nico Elvedi was afforded a free header from ten yards to put his side one up.

Dortmund responded well and soon after went in front as Jadon Sancho assisted both of Erling Haaland's quick-fire goals before the half hour mark. BVB couldn't retain the lead however as Elvedi notched his second just four minutes after with a simple tap in to level the game at 2-2.

The hosts came out of half time hungrier than their opponents and retook the lead within five minutes of the restart - poor defending allowing Ramy Bensebaini to find the bottom corner from an acute angle. A late Marcus Thuram header eventually sealed the three points for Monchengladbach, who replace their visitors in the top four.

Now, to the Dortmund ratings.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Roman Burki (GK) - 4/10 - Made a good early save, but lost it after that. Lacked any sort of command of his area and showed calamitous hands for the Monchengladbach equaliser.

Mateu Morey (RB) - 6/10 -
Was at fault for the third Fohlen goal as he left too much space out wide, but overall had a decent game. Stopped a couple of counter attacks, while also getting forward to good effect.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 6/10 - Made a crucial interception in the lead up to his side's second and was unlucky not to score, having had an effort well stopped by Yann Sommer. But the Swiss was caught out several times, including losing his man for the opening goal.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 5/10 -
Looked tired and was unusually sloppy when passing the ball through to midfield. Not his finest game.

Raphael Guerreiro (LB) - 6/10 -
Found himself in decent positions at times and nearly made it 3-3 but for a good Sommer save.

2. Midfielders

Emre Can (CM) - 5/10 - Had an effort spectacularly cleared off the line with score at 1-1, but the German had a poor game other than that. Was at fault for the final goal as he was beaten far too easily by Thuram in the air.

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 7/10 -
One of the brighter sparks for Dortmund. The England youngster was full of energy as he made great forward runs and found pockets of space. Was crucial in the first BVB goal as his vision allowed him to find Sancho beautifully in the build up.

Marco Reus (AM) - 5/10 -
Really struggled to make any impact against his former club. Completed just one dribble throughout his time on the field and managed one key pass before being taken off. A night to forget.

3. Forwards

Julian Brandt (RW) - 6/10 - Had a solid outing. Showed class with a few touches, while providing a threat in the final third, making a few key passes and accurate crosses. Unlucky not to grab an assist.

Erling Haaland (ST) - 8/10 - No prizes for guessing who Dortmund's man of the match was. The Norwegian was once again the stand out for BVB, scoring two beautifully-taken goals in the first 45. Supply him and he will score.

Jadon Sancho (LW) - 8/10 - Not far behind Haaland was Sancho. The Englishman had a really good game from the left wing. Grabbed two lovely assists and was influential throughout, finishing the game with 86 touches.

4. Substitutes

Gio Reyna (AM) - 6/10 - Did a far better job creatively than Reus, who he replaced. The American managed an 85% pass accuracy and set up Guerreiro's chance to make it 3-3.

Youssoufa Moukoko (ST) - 6/10

Steffen Tigges (ST) - N/A
