Borussia Dortmund kicked off the new Bundesliga campaign with a 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, thanks to a first club strike from Giovanni Reyna and an Erling Haaland brace.

Der BVB took the lead ten minutes before the half-time break, when Jude Bellingham's delightful flick found the feet of Reyna, who swept the ball home from a tight angle. The hosts doubled their advantage early in the second half, when Reyna was brought down in the penalty area, and Haaland coolly dispatched the resulting spot-kick.

The Norwegian starlet bagged his second with a ruthless finish past Yann Sommer, latching on to a wonderful Jadon Sancho through ball, and Dortmund saw out the game to claim their first three points of the new season.

Let's have a look at how each player fared on a routine evening in Dortmund.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Roman Bürki (GK) - 7/10 - Didn't have too much to do on a fairly comfortable evening, but played out from the back expertly and commanded his penalty area when necessary.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 7/10 - Dealt with everything the Monchengladbach forwards threw his way. Composed, calm and collected. The three C's of excellent defending.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 7/10 - Fortunate not to concede a penalty in the second half for a clumsy challenge on Marcus Thuram. Put an absolute cruncher in earlier though, which was very satisfying to watch.

Emre Can (CB) - 8/10 - Resolute and steady in defence, while stepping out with the ball and kickstarting attacks in the opponents' half. Like a duck to water at centre-back.

2. Midfielders

Thomas Meunier (RM) - 7/10 - A more defensive wing-back compared to Hazard, Meunier did his duties manfully, and bombed down the line to support his attacking teammates.

Axel Witsel (CM) - 7/10 - Kept the game moving and dictated the pace of proceedings, while breaking up Gladbach's attacks with excellent reading of the game. A typically well-rounded display.

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 8/10 - Supplied the opening goal with the most delicate and daintiest of flicks. Oozed class throughout. What a player.

Thorgan Hazard (LM) - N/A - Pulled up injured and had to be replaced after 20 minutes.

3. Forwards

Jadon Sancho (RW) - 8/10 - Linked up beautifully with his fellow forwards, and would have bagged a nice assist, had Reyna found the net with a close range strike. Finally got his assist when serving Haaland - and a beaut at that.

Erling Haaland (ST) - 8/10 - Killed the game with a calmly-converted spot-kick and bagged a clinical third, adding to his rough and tumble, physical performance. Didn't give the centre-backs a moment of rest.

Giovanni Reyna (LW) - 9/10 - Broke the deadlock with the sweetest and most accurate of finishes from a very acute angle. Won the penalty for the second goal with a wonderful run down the left flank.

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Yann Sommer (GK) - 6/10 - Had little chance with any of the goals, and produced a couple of saves when called upon.

Matthias Ginter (CB) - 6/10 - The most solid of the three centre-backs, Ginter did his best to keep Dortmund at bay. It was never going to be easy though.

Nico Elvedi (CB) - 5/10 - Another poor display, Elvedi struggled to get to grips with the physical chaos that is Haaland, and the rhythmic dancers that surround him. A long 90 minutes.

Ramy Bensebaini (CB) - 5/10 - Wasn't having the most comfortable of evenings before giving the game away with a rash and needless tackle to surrender a penalty in the second half.

6. Midfielders

Stefan Lainer (RM) - 6/10 - Stuck to his task to the best of his ability and caused the odd problem for the adversary. Not his day.

Cristoph Kramer (CM) - 5/10 - Failed to get anywhere near the Dortmund midfield, and made no mark on proceedings.

Florian Neuhaus (CM) - 6/10 - Slightly better than his central partner, but once again, offered very little in a limp performance.

Oscar Wendt (LM) - 5/10 - Provided nothing for his teammates and was overrun by Dortmund's blistering pace. Substituted.

7. Forwards

Hannes Wolf (RW) - 6/10 - Possibly the brightest spark of Gladbach's attacking threats, yet he was still hooked off on the hour-mark. Put out of his misery.

Lars Stindl (ST) - 5/10 - A frustrating night for the forward. Worked hard to bring his teammates into play, but found himself regularly isolated. Picked up a yellow card.

Jonas Hofmann (LW) - 5/10 - A wonderfully average display, doing plenty of running, but offering little in the way of danger. Not brilliant.

8. Substitutes

Marcus Thuram (ST) - 7/10

Alassane Plea (RW) - 6/10

Patrick Hermann (LM) - 6/10
