Some of the most popular formations on Football Manager 2023 rely on an attacking midfielder, so it's important to find yourself a good one.

Regardless of what sort of transfer budget you're working with, there are plenty of top talents out there who could make a real difference in your team. You could send your scouts to find them, but we've all the hard work already.

Here are the best attacking midfielders to sign on any budget on FM23.

Cheap options

Roberto Pereyra
Udinese

The attacking midfielder/wing-back hybrid that is Pereyra is worth every penny of his £4.3m price tag. He has 14s and 15s all over his attributes page.

Isco
Free agent

After his short spell with Sevilla came to an end, Isco is back on the hunt for a new club. His passing stats are some of the best on the whole game.

Max Kruse
Free agent

German veteran Kruse is a real goal-grabbing midfielder and is a nice bargain as a free agent.

Dimitri Payet
OM

Valued at just £700,000, Payet is your typical ageing FM star. His physical stats are pretty low but his techical attributes are through the roof.

Junior Sornoza
Independiente del Valle

It'll cost you around £1.3m to pick up dead-ball specialist Sornoza from Independiente del Valle.

90min recommends

Alvaro Fidalgo
America

Fidalgo is one of the biggest bargains on the entire game. The 25-year-old Spaniard, who has 17 passing, is undeniably good enough for a top division and can be picked up for just £425,000. With his tiny wages as well, you will not find an attacking midfielder who represents that sort of value for money anywhere.

Lars Stindl
Borussia Monchengladbach

£1.4m for Stindl is a nice price. The 33-year-old boasts some unreal mental stats and would make a nice pick-up for a smaller side.

Marek Hamsik
Trabzonspor

Hamsik is cheap transfer fee to go with hefty wage demands. He'll cost you just £625,000 up front but you'll need a little more in your budget to get this one done.

Dries Mertens
Galatasaray

35-year-old Mertens has only just joined Galatasaray but he's an intriguing option for when he does decide to listen to offers at just £700,000.

Janik Haberer
Union Berlin

Rounding this section of is £3.1m-rated Haberer, who brings some of the best mental stats you're likely to find.

Reasonable options

Denis Suarez
Espanyol

Stepping up to £12.5m, Suarez is brilliant value for money. His 16 passing and 15 dribbling will make him a reapl problem for defenders, but you will have to wait for him to listen to offers.

Thomas Lemar
A. Madrid

Lemar is great value at his £12.5m price tag, but it gets even better as he usually hits the transfer list in the first summer and can be picked up for half that amount in just a month or two.

Marko Livaja
Hajduk

Livaja might not be a wonderkid anymore but the 28-year-old is still a top talent who is great value at £7.25m.

David Silva
Real San Sebastian

Now 36, Silva remains an elite playmaker who can be recruited for just £3.2m. You'll need some hefty wages to convince him to sign, but with that initial expense, it should all balance out.

Roland Sallai
SC Freiburg

Versatility is one of Sallai's strongest attributes. He can help out anywhere in attack for just £7.5m.

90min recommends

Talisca
Al-Nassr

Work rate is a bit of a problem for Talisca, but if you think you can find the ideal role for him, he's worth the risk. For £10.5m you'll get a guaranteed stream of goals and assists.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Inter

33-year-old Mkhitaryan is excellent value for his £6m price tag. He's only just joined, however, so you'll have to keep an eye on how he settles.

James Rodriguez
Olympiacos

Another who has only just joined his current club, Rodriguez is still more than good enough for a major side and you'll only have to pay £14m to snap him up.

Jose Campana
Levante

Campana is great value for his £11m price tag. With 16 for passing, technique and first touch, he looks capable of creating plenty of goals.

Vincenzo Grifo
SC Freiburg

Grifo has some excellent creative stats and almost guarantees you a goal or two from free-kicks as well.

Expensive options

Ricardo Horta
BRG

Comparatively cheap at £26m, you won't find many better bargains than Horta, whose low wages make this deal even better.

Rafa
Benfica

Rafa has made it into our RW and LW lists before this, and he completes the trifecta with an appearance here. The Benfica man is good value for money at £35m.

Piotr Zielinski
Parthenope

One of Europe's most underrated creators, Zielinski is worth every penny of his £44m price tag.

Julian Brandt
Borussia Dortmund

£34m is what it'll take to land Brandt's 16 dribbling, 16 passing and 17 technique.

Gavi
Barcelona

Gavi's sky high potential means his value is up at £57m, but for that money, you're getting an elite current player who will be one of the best on the game very soon.

90min recommends

Otavio
Porto

Some top sides end up circling around Otavio pretty quickly and that's largely to do with his bargain £26m price tag. For that money, you're getting a top player who is comfortable anywhere in midfield.

Pedro Goncalves
Sporting CP

What sets Goncalves apart from the bunch is his age. He's only 23 and has some really nice potential, so you're getting a top player in the present and a potential superstar for the next decade. You can't go wrong for £32m.

Paulo Dybala
Roma

You have to wait to trigger Dybala's £17.25m release clause but the Argentine is definitely worth waiting for. He's one of the top forwards on the game and you won't find anyone close to his quality for that sort of money.

Marco Reus
Borussia Dortmund

Taking us home is Reus. It feels wrong to take him out of Dortmund but, at £31m, you shouldn't really hesitate to. He's a sensational player whose focus is more on scoring goals than creating them.

Marco Asensio
R. Madrid

In the final year of his contract and facing an uncertain future in Madrid, Asensio can be lured away for a cool £31m.
