Barcelona have been close to flawless in La Liga this, notching up a 1-0 win over Villarreal at the weekend to go 11 points clear of Real Madrid and tighten their early grip on the title.

But Xavi's Catalans were poor in Europe in the first half of the season, dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage for the second year in a row.

Now, despite arguably being the best team in Europe right now, they face a strong Manchester United in the Europa League knockout play-off.

Here's a look at the starting XI that the boss could pick.

GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen - The German goalkeeper recently celebrated a 17th clean sheet in 29 appearances this season.

RB: Jules Kounde - Helped Sevilla knock Manchester United out of this competition in 2020. Is now fully accustomed to his full-back role for club and country.

CB: Ronald Araujo - Has been a welcome asset since returning from injury.

CB: Andreas Christensen - The player with the most prior experience against Manchester United in this lineup thanks to his Chelsea days. But only a winner on one occasion out of six.

LB: Jordi Alba - Three quarters of the back four basically picks itself, but Xavi has chopped and changed at left-back in recent weeks and could do so again.

CM: Frenkie de Jong - Manchester United really wanted him in the summer and he is already well acquainted with Erik ten Hag from their Ajax days.

CM: Franck Kessie - The expected absence of club captain Sergio Busquets leaves a spot open in midfield - potentially this is Kessie's time to shine.

CM: Pedri - Already having the most prolific goalscoring season of his fledgling career after finding the net again at the weekend.

RW: Raphinha - Is slowly beginning to find his feet following a slow start to life at Barcelona.

ST: Robert Lewandowski - The veteran Pole, already on 23 goals for the season, has played four times against Manchester City in the past but never Manchester United.

LW: Gavi - Talented beyond belief, Spanish wonderkid Gavi has made the left wing role his own in 2023.
