Bayern Munich made hard work of things on Wednesday night as they booked their place in the last-16 of the DFB-Pokal with a chaotic 5-2 victory over Augsburg.

Ermedin Demirovic could have put the hosts ahead inside two minutes but Mads Pedersen did give Augsburg a deserved lead nine minutes in as his strike from range soared past Sven Ulreich and into the back of the Bayern net.

Bayern were behind for 20 minutes before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting tied things up. There was nothing pretty about the goal as the striker's effort from a tight angle was woefully misjudged by Tomas Koubek, who dived to block what he thought was a cross and ended up watching as the shot nestled into the back of the net.

Sadio Mane missed from four yards just moments later as Bayern entered the half-time break frustrated at 1-1, with Koubek pulling off a number of saves to make up for his calamitous error.

Keeping up the tempo after the break, Gnabry his the bar after three minutes before dragging another glorious chance wide almost straight after, seemingly doing all he could not to score at this point.

The frustration didn't last long, however, as Bayern were ahead for the first time in the game 53 minutes in. Joshua Kimmich's first-time finish was too much for Koubek and Bayern finally had one foot in the next round.

Choupo-Moting, who got the assist for Kimmich's goal, added his second of the night six minutes later as he collected a loose ball in the box and thumped home.

It looked like Bayern were going to romp to victory but Augsburg were offered a glimpse of hope in the 65th minute as Dayot Upamecano turned into his own net, but Jamal Musiala resored the two-goal cushion soon after with a glorious curling effort.

Leon Goretzka should have added a fifth late on but Alphonso Davies eventually did himself, firing Bayern through to the next round in style.
