Atletico Madrid host their city neighbours Real Madrid in the first capital derby of the La Liga season on Sunday night.

Both clubs faced German teams in the Champions League in midweek but endured and enjoyed contrasting nights.

Atletico had a penalty appeal waved away in the first half before Bayer Leverkusen notched twice in the final six minutes. Real Madrid left it late themselves before netting the only two goals of their victory against RB Leipzig.

Here's everything you need to know about the 230th edition of the Madrid derby.

Atletico Madrid team news

Jan Oblak has missed the last two matches after hobbling off during the closing stages of a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad. Atletico's first-choice goalkeeper travelled with the squad to Germany but didn't pass a late fitness test and is a doubt for this weekend as well.

Jose Maria Gimenez was also ruled out of the tie with a back injury while Stefan Savic has been nursing a thigh complaint. Sergio Reguilon joined Atletico on loan from Tottenham at the end of August while suffering from a hernia.

Real Madrid team news

During Madrid's 4-1 victory over Mallorca last weekend, Lucas Vazquez was forced off with a muscle strain that is expected to keep him out for two to three weeks.

Eder Militao has been nursing a hamstring injury he aggravated during Madrid's Champions League opener against Celtic last midweek. The 24-year-old faces a race against time but the biggest question mark lingers over the availability of Karim Benzema.

The Ballon d'Or nominee is a major concern for Carlo Ancelotti with a muscular problem. The Brazilian winger Rodrygo has played through the middle in his place but last season's top scorer would be sorely missed if - as expected - he isn't rushed back this Sunday.

Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid Starting 11: Courtois; Carvajal, Rudiger, Alaba, Mendy; Modric, Tchouameni, Kroos; Valverde, Rodrygo, Vinicius.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid score prediction

Fan unrest, a concentration of defensive injuries and the bizarre cat and mouse game being played with Antoine Griezmann have made for a rocky start to Atletico's season.

Los Blancos have won all eight of their matches this term but have offered almost every opponent they have faced the hope of a result. Stripped of the figurehead of their frontline, the reigning European and Spanish champions may have their perfect start punctured by rivals that would love - and perhaps need - to bloody Real's nose.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid
