Champions League-chasing Atletico Madrid have the chance to bounce back from a crushing defeat to Barcelona with the visit of an improving Getafe in Saturday night's Madrid derby.

Atletico's 4-2 loss to the Catalan giants last weekend elbowed them out of La Liga's top four. Getafe, meanwhile, have been transformed since the arrival of Quique Sanchez Flores in October.

Under the stewardship of Michel's replacement, Getafe have the sixth best points record in La Liga, collecting five more than the reigning champions Atletico in the same time frame.

Here's all you need to know about Saturday's match.

Atletico team news

Diego Simeone's passion was misplaced during Atletico's defeat to Barcelona as the Rojiblancos coach hauled Daniel Wass to his feet even though the winter arrival was struggling. It has since emerged that Wass suffered a sprained knee and could be out for as many as two months.

Antoine Griezmann is continuing his own recovery from a thigh injury. However, Marcos Llorente and Geoffrey Kondogbia - who both returned to training ahead of last weekend's match yet did not feature in the squad - could figure this Saturday.

Getafe lost their first-choice goalkeeper David Soria to a collision during their 3-0 win over Levante last weekend. Geta's number one since 2018 is expected to be out until mid-March.

Sanchez Flores may well also be without left-back Mathias Olivera after the defender hobbled off holding his calf on Friday. The lesser-spotted striker Jose Juan Macias isn't expected to bolster his tally of 201 La Liga minutes this weekend as he nurses a muscle injury.

Atletico vs Getafe head-to-head record

To say that the rivalry between Atletico Madrid and Getafe is one-sided would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions. Atletico have won 16 of the past 18 meetings between the clubs (drawing the other two).

Jan Oblak's own goal in this season's reverse fixture broke a 17-game streak of clean sheets for Atletico against their fellow Madrid-based outfit. The last player employed by Getafe to find the net in a La Liga match against Los Colchoneros was Diego Castro in November 2011, before Simeone was even coach of Atleti.

Atletico vs Getafe score prediction

Atletico and Getafe are clearly clubs enjoying contrasting trajectories in terms of form. Geta haven't even benefitted from an unusually kind run of fixtures, taking four points from a pair of home games against Real Sociedad and league-leading Real Madrid in January.

However, Getafe do lean on home comforts and are yet to win a single league game on away turf all season. Atletico have only lost once at the Wanda this term.

For all their newfound fragility and unpredictability, Atletico are still more likely than not to avoid adding to their paltry tally of home defeats this weekend.

Prediction: Atletico 2-0 Getafe
