Manchester United travel to Aston Villa on Sunday looking to put their Europa League disappointment behind them.

The Red Devils couldn't earn the two-goal win they needed at Real Sociedad to reach the last 16, instead qualifying for the knockout play-off round.

Villa, meanwhile, will have new manager Unai Emery in the dugout for the first time following his appointment as Steven Gerrard's successor.

Aston Villa predicted lineup (4-4-2)

After celebrating the departure of Steven Gerrard with a 4-0 victory over Brentford, Villa were treated with a drubbing of their own at the hands of Newcastle at St James' Park last Saturday.

From that side, Ashley Young could drop from the starting XI to accommodate Lucas Digne at left back, while a change of formation may also see Leander Dendoncker drop out of the side.

Emiliano Martinez has shrugged off concerns over a head injury by declaring himself fit to play, while Ludwig Augustinsson could also return to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Diego Carlos is still out with a long-term Achilles injury and will have to wait for his first game under Emery.

Aston Villa Starting 11: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Buendia, Dendoncker, Luiz, Young; Watkins, Ings.

Bench: Olsen, McGinn, Sanson, Chambers, Bednarek, Coutinho, Bailey, Archer, Ramsey.

Man Utd predicted lineup (4-2-3-1)

United were last in action on Thursday night as they sealed a spot in the Europa League knockout play-off round.

Erik ten Hag bemoaned his lack of attacking options after the 1-0 victory at Real Sociedad, having been unable to get the second goal that would have taken them straight into the last 16.

Anthony Martial continues to struggle with fitness issues but could make the bench, while Cristiano Ronaldo may continue in the striker role. Alejandro Garnacho scored against Sociedad but may drop to the bench to allow the more established Anthony Elanga to start.

Antony and Jadon Sancho missed the Europa League trip through the injury and illness respectively but stand a chance of making the matchday squad.

Man Utd Starting XI: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Elanga, Eriksen, Rashford; Ronaldo.

Bench: Dubravka, Malacia, Sancho, Lindelof, Garnacho, Antony, Martial, McTominay, Wan-Bissaka.
