Saliba missed a crucial two months of the season after picking up the issue in Arsenal's Europa League defeat to Sporting CP in March, with his absence noticeable as the club's form dipped towards the end of the season.

Arsenal had topped the Premier League table for much of the season, fending off the challenge of Manchester City, but eventually succumbed to the pressure put on by Pep Guardiola's side.

The French international has finally returned to training, partaking in gym work at London Colney ahead of Arsenal's first pre-season game against Nurnberg next week.

Along with Saliba, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Martinelli and Oleksandr Zinchenko all returned to training after injuries this week too. Tomiyasu missed the tail end of the season after suffering a muscle injury in the same clash with Sporting CP that Saliba was injured in, while Martinelli and Zinchenko had both struggled with ailments towards the end of the season.
