Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Cristian Stellini has provided an update on when Antonio Conte will return to the club.

Conte underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder at the start of February and was expected to rest for a number of weeks, though returned ahead of schedule and oversaw defeats to Leicester and Milan.

After that defeat at San Siro, Conte remained in Italy to recover at his family home at the advice of doctors.

"I underestimated the procedure, which wasn’t a routine operation, but a sudden and serious emergency. My body has suffered my impatience, and now I am forced to stop until my entire recovery," Conte said at that time.

Since then, Stellini has led Spurs to consecutive 2-0 wins at home to London rivals West Ham and Chelsea, though they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United on Wednesday.

Stellini, whose seven-match winning run in place of Conte at Inter and Tottenham has come to an end, revealed that he expected the head coach to be back in north London this week.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' trip to Wolves on Saturday, Stellini revealed Conte's first match back in charge will be next week's Champions League last 16 second leg with Milan.

"I said he would come back this week and straight after the match against Wolves he will be in London and in charge again from Sunday. The doctors decide this," he said.

Stellini has previously said that he is in constant contact with Conte, though the head coach's involvement from home on matchdays is not as grand as has been made out.
