Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson has praised young centre-back Jarell Quansah after his assured debut in the win over Wolves on Saturday.

Drafted in for his first Premier League start due to Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury and Virgil van Dijk's suspension, Quansah thoroughly impressed by winning 100% of his tackles, making five clearances and recovering possession for the Reds on four different occasions.

Quansah's strong showing helped build the foundations for Liverpool to mount a comeback against Wolves at Molineux. After going behind in the seventh minute, the Reds were able to score three second half goals to earn another crucial three points early in the 2023/24 season.

Speaking to the club's official website about the win, captain-for-the-day Robertson was keen to reserve special praise for the 20-year-old.

"Excellent from the big man. I don't think many of us helped him in the first half, which, when you've got experienced players around, you probably look for help more," the left-back said.

"We tried to protect him but I think as a collective unit we weren't as good in the first half, but he was very assured, done his defending very well and then on the ball he was cool and calm.

"He has got a bright future ahead of him but the here and now is pretty good as well and for him to step in at a really tough place to come, a really tough team to play against, and to put in that performance, particularly in the second half, then fair play to him for his first start."

Quansah will be hoping to earn more minutes this week when Liverpool face off against LASK in the Europa League, before welcoming West Ham United to Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
