Andy Robertson has admitted that the gap Man City have at the top of the Premier League is 'too big' for Liverpool to think about winning the title this season.

City's 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime stretched their advantage over the Reds to 14 points, though Jurgen Klopp's side's victory against Brentford cut that to 11 one day later.

We are beyond the halfway point of the campaign and it would take some turnaround for the Reds to close the gap now - something Robertson conceded after his side's meeting with the Bees.

"Man City are a fantastic team - one of the best in Premier League history - we have closed [the gap] a bit, but we have to concentrate on winning games," he told BBC Sport.

"The gap is too big to be looking at for the moment. We are up against one of the best and we will give it a go and try and pick up as many points as possible."

Liverpool managed to beat Brentford despite being without star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who are both away on AFCON duty.

In their absence Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino all netted in a 3-0 win and Robertson revealed he was proud of the performance.

"Every team who has managed to get points off Brentford has had to be patient. They are a quality, well-organised team," the Scotland captain said.

"We had a good few chances in the first half and we knew we could hurt them potentially on set pieces. That goal settled the crowd and I thought in the second half we were pretty dominant.

"It could have been a couple more. Diogo Jota hit the post, Bobby Firmino had a few chances."
