Despite Club America's 4-0 thrashing of New England Revolution in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal, Eagles boss Andre Jardine fully believes the tie is 'still open' with the second leg on the horizon.

The Mexican giants served up one of their most dominant performances of 2024 at Gillette Stadium Tuesday night, not allowing the Revs much of a chance on their home turf. The box score also relays that same message, as America notched 58% possession and 12 total shots (seven on target) to New England's nine total shots (three on target).

Speaking to the media after the victory, Jardine was quick to note that in his mind the tie is far from over despite his side's commanding 4-0 lead going into the second leg.

"It's a 180-minute game, there are past experiences that tell us that we have to play both games" Jardine said after the game. "Everything went well for us, we were forceful, but for me the series is still open and the second leg will be tough."

Despite the Revs' shocking form to being the 2024 MLS campaign under first-year head coach Caleb Porter -- four defeats and one draw in five games -- Jardine thought the first leg was going to be a much closer contest.

"I was surprised, I imagined a fairly balanced and tough game. But as I said it was a game where everything went well for us, we were forceful in the first two shots and scored a goal. It was one of these games to keep in memory for its practically perfect execution," he said.

Jardine's side return to Liga MX action this Saturday to take on Santos Laguna at the Estadio Corona. The Eagles will square off with the Revs in the second leg at the Estadio Azteca on April 9, and safe passage to the semifinals of the Champions Cup would see them matchup with the winner of Columbus Crew vs Tigres.
