Anatomy of a Goal: Yaw Yeboah's spectacular solo goal vs Gornik

In football, the name 'Yeboah' carries a fair bit of weight.

When you think of goalscoring Yeboahs, there's a good chance your mind wanders straight to former Leeds United man Tony, who tormented the Premier League with some of the most ferocious strikes ever seen between 1995 and 1997.

A human highlight reel, Tony fired his way into the history books with glorious goals against Liverpool and Wimbledon, setting the standard for all future Yeboahs to live up to.

Enter Yaw.

Heading into Saturday's meeting with Gornik, Wisla Krakow winger Yaw Yeboah was already feeling himself. He'd bagged two goals in the last four games and knew he had a good chance of adding a third against one of the Ekstraklasa's strugglers.

Yeboah's side were 1-0 up at the break and cruising, but just three minutes after half-time, he chose to step it up a notch.

Picking the ball up on the edge of the box, Yeboah flicked it up in the air and looked to be eyeing up a Tony-esque volley, but he decides to toy with his opponents for just a little bit longer.

He chopped the ball over to his right foot as it landed and then began dancing around the defenders, driving left towards the byline and again looking like he was going to rip one across the box.

That shot still wasn't coming as Yeboah instead chose to sit a defender down with another chop inside, and just when you thought he might be finally winding up that shot, the 24-year-old decided to have a go at two more defenders.

Holding them off with brute strength, he drilled the ball across the face of goal and ran away cheering as it nestled into the back of the net.

It's that penchant for the spectacular that saw Yeboah brought over to Manchester City's academy in 2014. He was tipped for a bright future and given the chance to strut his stuff out on loan with Lille and FC Twente, but things didn't work out and he found himself landing in Spain on a permanent basis four years later.

Since heading to Poland in 2020, Yeboah has been a regular on the highlight reel, but this latest effort is going to take some topping.
