Liverpool have been dealt a hammer blow in their pursuit of the Premier League title with Alisson sustaining a fresh hamstring injury, according to a report.

The Reds are due to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in Saturday's early kick-off, but it seems they will have to make do without their starting goalkeeper.

The Mirror report Alisson has picked up a hamstring injury in training and will not take on the Bees this weekend, with a race against time now on for the Brazilian to return to fitness ahead of next Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. Liverpool also host Luton Town on Wednesday in their last Premier League game before their trip to Wembley.

Alisson missed the Reds' 3-1 victory at home to Burnley last weekend having fallen ill, with Joe Gomez also absent with the flu. Liverpool's number one sat out wins over Fulham and Sheffield United earlier in the season due to a muscle problem.

Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher is set for a second successive start, while he may also be given the nod to take on Chelsea next week having played in the 2022 Carabao Cup final.

While Alisson will not take on Brentford, Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah to training after a hamstring injury of his own. Ibrahima Konate is also back from suspension, but Jurgen Klopp remains without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool are looking to win at Brentford for the first time since the Bees' promotion to the Premier League. Thomas Frank's side earned a point against the Reds in 2021/22 following a thrilling 3-3 draw, while Brentford beat Liverpool 3-1 last season.
