Brighton have confirmed Alexis Mac Allister has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2025.

The 23-year-old was snapped up by the Seagulls in January 2019, penning a four-and-a-half year deal at the time, but remained on loan with Argentinos Juniors for the remainder of the season.

Mac Allister then headed out on loan to Boca Juniors the following season, but would return to England in 2020 and break into Brighton's first-team just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Since then, he's slowly grown in importance around the club and become a key player this season.

Speaking on the new deal to Brighton's official website, Mac Allister said: “I am really happy here at Brighton. I’m grateful for the opportunity the club gave me to come to England and play in the Premier League, and it’s been an incredible journey.

“We have made great progress with Graham Potter, and I know there is more to make. I am now enjoying working with another top coach in Roberto De Zerbi and want to help the club to keep progressing.”

The Argentine was signed by and broke into the team under Potter, but will no doubt prove vital to new head coach De Zerbi in the immediate future, who was also delighted with the news: “I’m very happy for Alexis and for the club. He is an important player for us, and it is very good he has signed this new long-term contract."

He added: "I am looking forward to working more with him, helping him to improve, and to seeing him play at the World Cup next month."

Mac Allister made his Argentina debut in 2019 and was included in Lionel Scaloni's squad for the nation's final two friendlies before the World Cup back in September.
