Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore has tested positive for COVID-19, but he will still be able to fly out to Spain and join up with his national team if he returns a negative test on Tuesday.

Traore was in line to make his Spain debut in the upcoming Nations League clashes with Germany and Ukraine. The 24-year-old had previously been called up to the national squad back in November, but was forced to withdraw the next day through injury.

Spain boss Luis Enrique will already be without Real Sociedad's Mikel Oyarzabal after he recently tested positive for COVID-19, and Marca now report that Traore could also be missing for the same reason.

It is noted that all players on international duty with Spain must undergo a second round of testing on Tuesday ahead of their clash with Germany on Thursday. At this moment in time, Traore is still in England and self-isolating, but he will be allowed to fly out to Madrid and join up with the national side should he test negative on Tuesday.

Of course, while it will be frustrating he may not be involved despite being called up for the second time, the ultimate priority for the Wolves man at this current moment is his health and well-being. Having not yet made his Spain debut, Traore is still eligible to play for Mali. Marca add that this latest setback will create a 'period of doubts' as to which nation he will end up playing for.

However, it is worth noting that Traore has played for Spain at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level. The winger's recent call-up came after a very impressive 2019/20 season during which he developed and improved his game drastically - notably his composure when playing the final ball. In total, Traore finished the campaign with six goals and 12 assists to his name, striking up an excellent partnership with Raul Jimenez.

Due to his fine form, he attracted plenty of interest from a number of top European clubs throughout last season, but talk of a move away has cooled in more recent times.
