Angel Gomes Hints at Manchester United Stay Amid Interest From Chelsea

Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has hinted that he could yet extend his stay with the club, after admitting that he wants to go on and win trophies with the Red Devils.

It's hard to believe that Gomes is still just 19 years of age, considering how long his name has been around. The midfielder has been tipped for a very bright future, but he has struggled to make any impact this campaign.

Gomes was included in the first-team squad on ten occasions in 2019/20 before football was suspended indefinitely, but he has only managed to make six appearances in all competitions - with just three of these coming from the start.

The teenager's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but Man Utd attempted to tie him down to a new deal back in December. However, Gomes was left 'underwhelmed' by the new terms. And this, combined with his lack of involvement, led to reports that he would be ending his long stay with the club.

As a result, Chelsea have since shown an interest in the midfielder. Gomes is still yet to agree a new deal, but he has hinted that he could yet extend his stay with the Red Devils.

In a Google Hangout posted on the club's official website with Andreas Pereira, Gomes was questioned on United's philosophy - specifically, the opportunities given to academy players.

And Gomes explained that his aim is to win trophies for the club he has grown up with. He said: "We’ve seen it over the years, coming up from the academy and being at United my whole career, it's what you want to go on and do - win trophies and fight for the club.

"As one of the youngest in the squad now, when I was growing up, I was looking up to players like Andy [Pereira], Jesse [Lingard], Marcus [Rashford], and to all be in the same changing room now is quite surreal.

"It just shows what the club prides itself upon, and if you work hard, you can get there."

It remains to be seen whether United and Gomes can agree a new deal, but the youngster has hinted his willingness to extend his stay and fight for his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans.
