Jadon Sancho Makes Bundesliga History by Scoring Again in 5-0 Win Over Union Berlin
By Ben Carter
Jadon Sancho scored yet again on Saturday, writing himself into German football folklore in Borussia Dortmund's 5-0 win over Union Berlin.
The prodigious winger became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score 25 goals in the competition, reaching the quarter-of-a-century milestone almost two months before his 20th birthday.
Sancho opened the scoring with a deflected strike which wrong-footed goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz just 13 minutes into the match, notching his ninth goal in his last nine league matches for BVB.
The 19-year-old has now scored 25 Bundesliga goals in his career, reaching that milestone quicker than any other player in German top-flight history.
Since moving to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017, Sancho has been directly involved in 68 goals in just 82 appearances. This season alone, he's scored 15 goals and claimed 16 assists across all competitions - more than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Most recently, Sancho has formed an impressive partnership with Borussia Dortmund's January signing Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian's first ever goal for the club was set up by Sancho, while they've scored 10 goals and picked up four assists between them since Haaland's debut against Augsburg last month.
"We combine very well and we’re able to bring that into the games and help the team," Sancho said after Borussia Dortmund's 5-0 win over Union Berlin, quoted by bundesliga.com. "I’m really happy that he’s here."
Sancho's feeling were shared by Haaland too, who added: "You can see on the pitch it’s very good. He’s a great guy.
"I’m enjoying my time here so far. My teammates are so good, as you can see, and that makes it easier for me. There’s a lot more to come. It was a normal Saturday for me, and I’ll go to bed early tonight."
Results elsewhere have seen Borussia Dortmund move three points off Bayern Munich at the top of the table, with the Bavarians retaking top spot from RB Leipzig after Julian Nagelsmann's side could only rescue a draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
