Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig have announced the arrival of Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Dani Olmo on a four-and-a-half year contract.

The Spain international had been attracting interest from his boyhood club Barcelona in the build-up to the winter transfer window, as well as the likes of Wolves, Chelsea and AC Milan.

But the 21-year-old has now been unveiled as RB Leipzig's latest new recruit as Julian Nagelsmann's side look to win the first Bundesliga title in the club's short history.

"RB Leipzig is a young, attractive club that has convinced me with its philosophy of developing talented players and placing their trust in them," Olmo said upon his arrival, in a statement on Leipzig's official website.

"I would like to contribute with my strengths and help to continue on the successful path."

Olmo predominantly plays as an attacking midfielder both at club level and international level, although the former La Masia prospect does have experience operating on either wing.

He is unlikely to be forced alongside Timo Werner at the spearhead of Leipzig's attack, but Olmo will be able to supplement both Marcel Sabitzer and Emil Forsberg in free roles under Nagelsmann.

RB Leipzig are currently four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, although they can temporarily extend that lead away at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Second place Bayern Munich will look to at least match Leipzig's result to keep pace with Die Roten Bullen in the race for the league title, with Saturday evening's opponents Schalke 04 hot on their tails too.

Borussia Dortmund's 5-1 win over Cologne - which included a record-breaking two goals from January signing Erling Haaland - has moved them to within four points of the top of the table.
