Inter Miami to Name Manager as David Beckham's Side Close in on Two-Time Champions League Winner

​Inter Miami are reported to be close to appointing former Pachuca and Monterrey coach Diego Alonso as their new manager, as David Beckham's franchise gear up for their first season in MLS.

The Florida-based side, acquired by Beckham in 2014, will become the latest to be introduced to the ever-expanding league when they take on Los Angeles FC in their opening match of the 2020 campaign on 1 March.

They have so far added 20 players to their roster and are expected to add more in the near future with both of their designated player slots yet to be filled.

Manchester City's ​David Silva is the most recent high-profile ​name to be linked, with even Lionel Messi ambitiously touted in the past, but it seems for now as if the club are focused on recruiting their head coach for the season ahead.

And according to the ​Miami Herald, sourcing ESPN in Mexico, that man will be former Monterrey boss Diego Carlos, who is likely to be announced on Monday.

The former Uruguay international took over the Mexican side in 2018, and rapidly achieved an incredible amount of success, leading them to victory in the CONCACAF Champions League.

In lifting the trophy he became the first manager to achieve the honour with two different clubs.

Best known as a player for his goalscoring antics that helped Atlético Madrid to the Segunda Division title in 2002, he also featured for Racing Santander and Malaga.

At previous club Monterrey, Alonso won an impressive 31 of his 55 games, and it appears the next step is likely to be north to MLS.

He is expected to take over from Monday and take charge of his side's pre-season preparations in the new year.
