Burnley have signed former Motherwell midfielder Robbie Leitch on a free transfer.

The 18-year-old, who will join up with the development squad at Turf Moor, has penned a two-year contract with the option for a further year's extension should The Claret's see promise in the youngster.

Leitch comes from a footballing background. His father Scott made more than 125 appearances for the family's hometown club, Motherwell; while his brother Jack also holds a place in the club's academy.

Speaking to the official club website Leitch, who helped Well overcome Hearts in 5-2 victory to lift the Scottish Youth Cup at Hampden Park, said Burnley's offer was one he simply could not refuse.

He added: “I’m delighted to sign here because it’s a club that is really going places and the fact they’re back in the Premier League is great.

“It was an easy decision to make because I think Burnley are that big of a club and I can’t wait to get started now.

“Hopefully I can play regularly for the U21s this season, and keep progressing to try and challenge for a spot in the first-team as quick as I can.

“I’ve got a bit of history in English football as my dad played for Swindon a few years back and hopefully I can do as good as him!”
