Manchester City may be forced to survive their remaining four games of the season without Ederson after the goalkeeper suffered an injury against Nottingham Forest and was removed from the pitch.

With City sitting just one point behind leaders Arsenal in the midst of an intense Premier League title race, an injury for their number one goalkeeper would come as a huge blow. But now, it looks as if Guardiola's side may have to adjust to life without their shot stopper as Ederson was seen leaving the City Ground with his arm in a sling.

His injury came after a collision with Forest defender Willy Boly, and Ederson received treatment on the pitch before being taken off after the first half. The Brazilian was replaced by Stefan Ortega, before the boss gave a short comment on his injury after the game.

Guardiola said: "It doesn't look good. We see tomorrow with the doctor."

Ortega has proven to be a reliable alternative to Ederson this season, stepping up to replace him during a previous injury in March. He is now expected to start in City's next game, when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ederson's injury will come as welcome news for challengers Arsenal, who sit at the top of the table ahead of their next game against Bournemouth at the Emirates.

With a game in hand, Guardiola's side know they must beat Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham if they are to continue their reign.

City were without the talent of Phil Foden and Ruben Dias at Forest as both players reported illness, although there is hope that they will be fit enough to return for the next game.
