Marcus Rashford took to social media to respond to his omission from the preliminary England squad for this summer's Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate opted to leave the Manchester United forward out of his preliminary squad in favour of the likes of Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze, Jack Grealish and Jarrod Bowen.

Asked for an explanation for his decision, Southgate insisted those involved simply enjoyed better seasons at club level than Rashford, who managed just seven goals and two assists in 33 appearances over this past Premier League season.

Rashford then took to social media to react to the news.

"Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming (sic) tournament," he wrote alongside a graphic of the latest England squad.

Rashford has been a regular starter for Erik ten Hag this season but picked up an injury in April which kept him out for four games, and he was only fit enough to come off the bench in United's final two matches of the campaign.

The 26-year-old has become the latest victim of the plethora of attacking talents in the England squad.

United teammate Jadon Sancho, who has impressed on loan with Borussia Dortmund, has not played for England since October 2021 after Southgate questioned his form at club level, while Chelsea's Raheem Sterling remains out in the cold following his shock omission after the 2022 World Cup.

At club level, Rashford is among the United players rumoured to be available for the right price this summer. 90min understands Paris Saint-Germain view Rashford as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe.
