Real Madrid sealed their 36th La Liga title in dramatic fashion on Saturday evening, and social media was loving it.

Los Blancos romped to a comfortable 3-0 win over Cadiz earlier in the day which laid down the gauntlet to Barcelona - win every single game if you want to even have a chance of stopping us.

However, at the first hurdle, Xavi's men stumbled. A 4-2 defeat to Girona just a few hours after the Cadiz game ensured Madrid could no longer lose top spot, with the La Liga trophy heading back to the Bernabeu.

It's a result which had been clear for a few weeks now but few would have expected the nature of Madrid's triumph.

Los Blancos had put themselves into the best possible position on a run of form which has seen them go unbeaten since September 2023, fighting off injuries to key stars like Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao to reclaim the crown from Barcelona's clutches.

Fans were very quick to remind Barcelona that it was their defeat that sealed the deal for Madrid.

Xavi's side were well off the pace in the early stages of the campaign but bounced back after he said he was leaving. Now, having confirmed his plan to stay beyond the summer, the Barca boss finds himself needing to explain one of the most surprising collapses of the season.

Celebrations were mixed with excitement or, depending on your allegiances, fear towards Madrid's future, as this side is just about to pick up a certain Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer.

If they're winning the league with four games to go without an actual striker, what are they going to do when they add perhaps the best player on the face of the planet?
