Toni Kroos has revealed he has been tapped up by a Real Madrid icon to play in legends games following his decision to retire from football.

The 34-year-old will call time on his playing career after Euro 2024 and bade an emotional farewell to the Bernabeu on Saturday night after his final La Liga fixture for the club.

Kroos still has one more fixture with Los Blancos to fulfil - the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund next week - but he revealed before the weekend he had been tapped up Real Madrid Castilla manager Raul Gonzalez, the club's third all-time top scorer, about playing alongside fellow retired greats like Zinedine Zidane in the future.

Zidane is one of the all-time greats, having enjoyed great success with Juventus and Madrid as well as winning the 1998 World Cup, the same year he won the Ballon d'Or.

"When I left the training yesterday, Raul was outside. He told me that he did not like the decision at first but found something positive because now I'm definitely playing this legends game with him," said Kroos on his podcast.

"He said I had to be there. Me and Zizou [Zinedine Zidane] playing behind him, [Luis] Figo on the right, and RC3 [Roberto Carlos] at the back. That could be funny."

Kroos played under Zidane during the France legend's two spells as manager at the Bernabeu, making 209 appearances for Madrid in that time. Only Casemiro with 217 played more games for Zidane.

Germany international Kroos has remained a crucial first-team presence for manager Carlo Ancelotti, making 33 appearances in La Liga this season with 24 starts. He was also named in the XI for both legs against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals and is expected to start against Dortmund on Saturday.
