Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill is seeking assurances from new head coach Enzo Maresca over his role in the team, 90min understands.

Colwill's position under former boss Mauricio Pochettino generated plenty of debate last season. The 21-year-old was regularly used as a left-back before a toe injury suffered in March forced him out of the lineup.

With Pochettino now gone and Maresca taking his place in the Stamford Bridge dugout, 90min understands Colwill wants assurances that he will be the number one choice for the left-sided centre-back position next season.

Talks will soon be held with Maresca and Chelsea officials, with both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain keeping a close eye on proceedings. Both suitors feel nothing is possible this summer since Chelsea don't currently view Colwill as for sale, however.

The academy graduate remains under contract until 2029, with an option for a further 12 months, so Chelsea are under no pressure to entertain offers at this point.

Though Liverpool and PSG are well aware that a move for Colwill this summer is highly unlikely, the two clubs are keen to make their interest known in case Colwill is not given the assurances he wants in talks with Maresca. Colwill is naturally disappointed he hasn't made England's Euro 2024 squad when only a year ago Gareth Southgate had told him he stood a chance of taking Harry Maguire's starting spot if he had a positive 2023/24 season at Chelsea.

Chelsea are preparing to bolster their defensive line with the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo, who will somewhat fill the void left behind by Thiago Silva's summer departure, although he is certainly not a like-for-like replacement.

Blues officials remain willing to listen to £25m offers for Trevoh Chalobah, who would only entertain a move to a club offering European football. The 24-year-old is believed to be happy to remain with Chelsea if he does not receive a suitable approach.
