Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not feature for Milan again this season and will miss Euro 2020 after suffering a knee injury against Juventus.

The 39-year-old left the field in agony in Milan's vital 3-0 victory over I Bianconeri, and it was suspected that he had suffered a serious knee injury.

The severity of his problem has ruled him out of the final weeks of I Rossoneri's top-four push, and now the striker faces even more personal anguish.

Ibrahimovic will miss Sweden's European adventure after it was recommended that the forward undergo a cautious six-week rehabilitation process, which if followed correctly, would keep him out of action for all three of his nation's Group E matches. He has since informed his country that he is ruling himself out of contention.

The legendary striker had previously retired from international football, but he announced his return to the Sweden setup in preparation for the rearranged European Championships this summer. Those plans have now been dashed, however.

Milan are two games away from securing their return to the Champions League after a seven-year absence, but will have to finish the season without their talisman. They host Cagliari on Sunday before a trip to top four rivals Atalanta on the final day of the season.

Ibrahimovic has continued his role as a mentor at Milan this season, leading an ultimately failed title charge but showing his worth as a leader to a young team, all amid the murky backdrop provided by the European Super League in recent weeks.

Sweden, meanwhile, will have to resort to plans of playing without Ibrahimovic this summer. Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak has been in fine form this season while Henrik Larsson's son Jordan is also working his way into the picture after a spectacular campaign for Spartak Moscow.
