Zlatan Ibrahimovic has discussed the rise of fellow Swede Anthony Elanga, stating that he's excited to watch the next '20 years' of the youngster's career.

Despite being just 19, Elanga is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Manchester United and become a firm favohas urite of Ralf Rangnick's since the turn of the year. The youngster has scored three goals for the Red Devils in 2022 alone, including a maiden Champions League goal against Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

Speaking to the press, ex-United man Ibrahimovic was asked about Elanga's progression at his former club and recalled the first time the two met.

"First time I met him, we were in the restaurant in the [United] training ground and he came up to me and he said, 'You know my father' and I was like, help me now because I don't know who I'm talking to," the Swedish legend said.

"'You played with my father Elanga', and then everything clicked and I said 'OK', and it made me happy because I wasn't the only Swedish one in Manchester, we had another Swedish player."

Ibra played with Elanga's father, Joseph, at Malmo at the start of his career over 20 years ago. Elanga's father enjoyed two spells at Malmo during his career, retiring there in 2010.

"We're all happy and we're enjoying the adventure he is on, he just started and he's on the way up so it's good. You will have something to watch for another 20 years."

Elanga looks all set to make his Sweden debut this week in a crucial World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final vs Czech Republic. The winner of the game will face Poland in Tuesday's final after the Poles were given a bye following Russia's disqualification due to the invasion of Ukraine.
