Zlatan Ibrahimovic is close to signing a new contract with AC Milan to keep him at San Siro beyond the 2020/21 season.

The Swede has had a transformative effect on Milan since returning in January 2020, and are on course to return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.

The 39-year-old is currently enjoying his second spell at the club having previously represented them between 2010 and 2012.

Stefano Pioli's side have exceeded many people's expectations of them already this season, though have fallen way behind city rivals Inter in the Serie A title race in recent weeks.

Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport (via Get Italian Football News) claim that good news is coming for Milan though, as Ibrahimovic could put pen-to-paper on a new €7m a year deal within the next ten days.

Ibrahimovic has scored 15 times in 16 Serie A appearances this season but aside from his goalscoring exploits, he has been credited as having a huge influence behind the scenes by some of his teammates.

Milan boast a youthful side which promises much in the future, but the impact some of the more experienced campaigners - most notably Ibrahimovic - have had in propelling them up the table shouldn't be overlooked.

Ibrahimovic returned to the Swedish national team set-up for the first time in five years during the recent international break, and continues to show that despite the fact he's approaching his 40th birthday, he still has plenty to offer.

The Rossoneri are expected to try and sign another striker this summer with a view to the longer-term future and in the shorter term, an incoming attacker would share the burden of scoring goals with Ibrahimovic.

Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic is said to be their number one target although Gazzetta dello Sport claim it would take something in the region of €40m to prise him away from Florence.
