Zinedine Zidane Provides Update on Real Madrid Future After Champions League Elimination

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has insisted that he has no plans to leave the club following their Champions League exit, instead explaining that he is 'proud' after a successful season.

Zidane's men were knocked out of the Champions League on Friday after a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad in the second leg of their last 16 clash. It was a performance filled with errors, allowing the Sky Blues to capitalise.

Real will have come into the clash with City in good spirits after securing their first La Liga title since 2016/17 and there was optimism that Los Blancos would overturn their first leg deficit, but this wasn't to be. It was a disappointing display to say the least, prompting reporters to ask Zidane whether he will be at the club next season.

The Frenchman provided an emphatic response, however, explaining that he himself has no plans to leave the club this summer. He said in a news conference, as quoted by Goal: "Well, I'm here, I'm Madrid's coach until something happens which is out of the ordinary. I'm here, of course.

"You don't have to think anything. I am the coach of Madrid, and that's it. There are no more questions to ask in this regard. Now we are all going to rest and we will return to have a great season."

Despite the manner of the defeat, Zidane insisted his team should be proud of their accomplishments in 2019/20.

"We need to be proud. I'm certainly very proud of what we've achieved. We can't, when we lose, be happy. The players aren't happy, for sure. But what we can be proud of is that we have had a great season," Zidane continued.

"The key today was to give everything on the pitch and that’s what we did, we were just missing a little something, I don't know what. I think we've still got to be happy with the season. We will see what will happen next season. For now, we rest a little."
