Yui Hasegawa joins Manchester City from West Ham

Manchester City have completed the deadline day signing of Yui Hasegawa from West Ham.

Hasegawa has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at City, keeping her at the Academy Stadium until 2025.

The Japanese midfielder is City's seventh new summer arrival, and follows Wednesday's departure of midfielder Keira Walsh to Barcelona for a world record transfer fee.

“When I played against City last season, I really liked the team’s playing style, so when I got this opportunity, I immediately wanted to join the club," said Hasegawa.

“People see me as an attacking player, but I also want to be known for my defending and
unpredictability. I may be small, but I am strong, and I want to show that. I’d like to create as many goals and assists as possible for the team this season to help us to hopefully enjoy a lot of success.”

Hasegawa moved to the WSL in 2021 when she joined West Ham from Milan. The technically gifted midfielder was a pivotal part of the West Ham side who finished sixth in the WSL last term - their highest ever top flight finish - making 17 appearances and chipping in with two goals and two assists.

The 25-year-old has 58 international caps for Japan, and was part of the squad that reached the last 16 at the 2019 World Cup.

The signing of Hasegawa concludes a busy summer transfer window for City, with eight permanent exits and seven new arrivals.

“She has a lot of experience under her belt including a year already in the Barclays WSL, and we
believe she will fit very nicely in with our style of play and the talented squad we already have
here at City.
