Xavi has insisted that Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is 'always welcome' at Camp Nou amid his disastrous spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine has scored just two league goals this season in Paris, a far cry from the 30 league goals he bagged at Barca the season prior to his move, and put in a disappointing performance in the Champions League round of 16 defeat to Real Madrid.

Messi's poor form led to boos from PSG's supporters after the defeat to Real Madrid, fuelling speculation over his future in the French capital.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of El Clasico this weekend, Xavi didn't categorically rule out a potential return for Messi - nor did he suggest that a move was in the offing - and instead stated that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is always welcome to return to Barcelona.

"He is the best in history and he'll always be welcome at Barcelona," Xavi said. "As long as I'm coach, it doesn't matter if he wants to come here every day. I think we owe him a huge amount.

"He has a contract with PSG and there is little we can say. Like whether he wants to come here every day to watch the training sessions and talk to the coach. What he has given us is priceless."

Messi isn't the only superstar who could be set to leave Paris this summer, with Kylian Mbappe seemingly all set to join Real Madrid having turned down numerous contract offers from PSG in recent months.
