X reacts as Chelsea strengthen European hopes with derby win over Tottenham
- Chelsea sealed a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in a London derby
- Trevoh Chalobah & Nicolas Jackson scored the goals in either half
- X, formerly Twitter, users had plenty to say about the events that unfolded

Chelsea claimed the bragging rights as west met north in Thursday night’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side claimed a first win since thrashing Everton almost three weeks ago and reignites their hopes of creeping into the top seven and returning to Europe next season.
For Spurs, this was a third successive defeat and makes it increasingly likely they will be playing Europa League football rather than Champions League football in 2024/25, with a seven-point gap to fourth place Aston Villa not realistic to close with so few games left.
This fixture always has the potential to get spicy. Remember that handshake?

It spins my head that this happened just last season, it feels like a different decade.

Trevoh Chalobah headed Chelsea into the lead midway through the first half.

But there was also a long VAR review as checks were made for an offside and possible foul.
VAR did everything possible to rule out that Chelsea goal despite Cucurella being onside while Gallagher is taking the free kick.

Then they switched to a possible foul which not a single Tottenham player appealed for!
"Clear and obvious" 😂
Cucurella with the block is a foul

Chalobah had waited a long time for it.
It's been a while! ⏰

Trevor Chalobah scores his first Premier League goal in over two years with a wonderful looping header to put Chelsea ahead. #BBCFootball #CHETOT pic.twitter.com/GMUCJEKFRs
Proving his critics wrong in the process.
I’ll be real as I’ve been a big critic of Trev Chalobah, but he’s been fantastic since coming back into the team. Props to him 👏💙 pic.twitter.com/xxqm6on877

Ultimately, it wasn't good defending from Spurs.

Nicolas Jackson doubled Chelsea's as the clock ticked into the final 20 minutes, converting the rebound when Cole Palmer's free-kick came back off the bar.

His record against Spurs since moving to England has been excellent.

It was also a bit of team landmark after a lack of goalscorers in recent years.
Chelsea have had multiple players scored more than 10 goals in a Premier League season for the first time since 2017/18:

2017/18:
◎ 12 - Eden Hazard
◎ 11 - Alvarto Morata

◉ 20 - Cole Palmer
◉ 11 -Nicolas Jackson

It was just not a good night for Spurs.
Nothing on this planet makes me angrier than Tottenham Hotspur. Nothing.

Sometimes the manager gets it wrong but today feels like it’s squarely on the players on the pitch. Lack of bravery across the pitch and some ridiculous decision making. 2-0

But it was a big night for Chelsea youngsters too.
Alfie Gilchrist off to a standing ovation from #CFC fans. Did well v Son and Johnson. Only second PL start. #CHETOT

Alfie Gilchrist is coming off. He is fatigued. Josh Acheampong is coming on to make his Chelsea debut. Huge.

The main hero of the night was Marc Cucurella, who hasn't had an easy ride at Chelsea.
